Biggest Lesson Learned from High School: The saying, "Sometimes football gives more to the player, then the player gives to football" is true. There are many life lessons learned playing football. Of course there are the obvious - hard work, persistence, and leadership. Playing GA 7A football requires so much more than mastering the tangible benefits. You have to be mentally strong, you have to be willing to embrace the team culture, you have to respect and trust the direction of your coaches. These are all a must to be successful at the 7A level. I would say the biggest lesson I learned was competing for a starting position as an undersized DL guy as a sophomore. All season long there was a competition and for the most part playing time was split. At first I was angry but over the course of the season I developed an appreciation for the process and I grew physically and emotionally from that experience. It was that point where I hit the weight room and the field for training. I put on "good weight" and never stepped off the field for two years after.
What The Coaches Say: My coaches would probably echo a lot of what I shared above. They would say a seasoned and experienced kid joined as a sophomore and was able to contribute to a GA 7A state championship team. However, it was the growth both physically and emotionally over the last two years that allowed me to blossom into a leader and overall well rounded football player. My experiences playing the best of the best across Georgia, traveling cross country, and appreciation for the grind and the process has me ready to play at the next level.
