Georgia Preps Player of the Week 2nd Round of the Playoffs

Trench Mob of the Week

Cedartown Offensive Line - This Offensive Line paved the way for 486 yards rushing and a blowout second round win over North Oconee. Five rushing touchdowns by three different running backs proved the big fellas had a lot to do with the Bulldogs success. They will look to continue their success as they host Bainbridge in the Quarterfinals!

Class 7A

Adam Freas (Milton) - Typically a WR, Freas who was filling in for starting QB Devin Farrell while also spending some time at Wide Receiver and Punt Returner. The Milton coaches trusted Freas and he delivered as he led the Eagles to a comeback win after being down at the half to an Archer team that had an impressive season. Freas finished off a fourth quarter drive to with a 5 yard run to give Milton the lead and 17-9 victory. No doubt Freas will play whatever role necessary as Milton looks to continue its undefeated season and deep playoff run!

Class 6A

Jayden Ponder (Allatoona) - Teams around the state might want to take notice, because they will be putting up with Ponder for two more years after this one. Ponder “called game” at halftime for the Bucaneeers in their second round win as he racked up three rushing touchdowns giving Allatoona a big lead on their way to a 31-6 win against Dacula. Allatoona will need an equally impressive week offensively as they travel to Westlake in what should be a high scoring affair.

Class 5A

Quante Jennings (Cartersville) - Stop us if you’ve heard this before about Jennings, the senior running back took on a huge workload in the second half to secure the Cane’s 31-19 win over St. Pius. Jennings is an outstanding closer that Cartersville has gone to many times throughout his career. Jennings and Cartersville will look to continue their sucess as they travel to Ware County in one of the most anticipated matchups of the quarterfinal round!

Class 4A

Avaun Rucker (Riverdale) - There hasn’t been many defenses to slow down Rucker and the Riverdale offense. Since an early season loss to Pebblebrook, the Raiders have done nothings but score close to 40 points per game. Rucker led the offense to an impressive output again, as well as throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two touchdowns himself in the 42-17 win over Northwest Whitfield! The Raiders now make the trip down to the coast in facing Benedictine for a chance to reach the semi-finals!

Class 3A

Rashod Dubinion (Cedar Grove) - The Saints are going to end up running a gauntlet if they want to add another state championship trophy to their impressive trophy case. And Dunbinion looks like a man on a mission to make it happen. In a thriller versus Region 6 champion Rockmart, the junior RB carried the ball 30+ times for over 170 yards and two overtime touchdowns including the game winner as Cedar Grove won 30-27 in three overtimes! It doesn’t get any easier as the Saints now travel to Crisp County for a showdown this Friday night!

Class 2A

Cam Smith (Callaway) - One thing you have to love about this Cavalier program is that they consistently have guys step up to win football games. Smith, a junior cornerback may have just had his coming out party in a tight 17-9 win over Lovett. Smith came up with two big time interceptions to stop scoring opportunities for Lovett. Callaway now hosts traditional power Thomasville, who is undoubtedly battle tested in this 2020 season!

Class 1A Public

Jamal Sanders (Brooks County) - Sweet revenge as Brooks County took down Dublin who ousted them in last years Class 2A State Championship Game. The Trojans had their ground game working for 5 of their 6 touchdowns. Sanders had a big part in the running game’s dominating performance as he rushed for three touchdowns in the 2nd half to ice the game for Brooks County. The Trojans now host Washington-Wilkes as they continue to work their way back for another shot at a state title!

Class 1A Private

Brooks Sturgeon (Wesleyan) - 3 seconds left, 42 yards, and a chance to send his Wolves back to the quarterfinals! Sturgeons’ kick came after a clutch offensive drive for the Wolves after North Cobb Christian rallied to tie the game. The game winner was also the second of two made kicks for Sturgeon who also punted for an average of 60+ yards per punt. Wesleyan now travels to Savannah Christian in hopes of reaching the state semifinals for the second year in a row!
