Class 1A Private Quarterfinal Previews
Wesleyan Wolves (10-2) at Savannah Christian Raiders (10-1)
How They Got Here:
Wesleyan defeated Athens Christian 34-28, North Cobb Christian 20-17
Savannah Christian received a bye, defeated St. Anne-Pacelli 37-24
Noteworthy: Savannah Christian is undefeated against GHSA teams with its lone loss coming to John Milledge (GISA). Wesleyan has trailed in both of its wins so far in the playoffs. Brooks Sturgeon hit a game winning FG for the Wolves in giving them the win over NCCS as time expired. These two teams met a year ago in the quarterfinals with Wesleyan winning 42-16 on their way to a state runner up finish.
Eagles Landing Christian Chargers (9-3) at Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines (10-1)
How They Got Here:
ELCA defeated Aquinas 45-17, Stratford Academy 27-0
PACS defeated Hebron Christian 63-28, Darlington 42-6
Noteworthy: This game is a rematch of two teams who gave us an absolute classic a year ago where ELCA came away with the 62-57 win in the second round a year ago. ELCA went on to win the state championship without another opponent coming within single digits. PACS is led by a strong senior class scattered throughout both sides of the ball, and all of their wins have come by double digits. ELCA’s three losses have come to higher classification opponents who are all still in the playoffs in their respective classification.
George Walton Bulldogs (9-2) at Calvary Day Cavaliers (7-4)
How They Got Here:
GWA defeated Holy Innocents 32-7, Christian Heritage 28-25
CDS defeated Landmark Christian by Forfeit, First Presbyterian Day 14-7
Noteworthy: Both teams lost in the first round a year ago, and win will give them the deepest run in the playoffs in recent memory. Both of teams defeated region winners a week ago to get themselves into the quarterfinal round. The Bulldogs have only lost to region foes Prince Avenue and traditional power, Athens Academy. Among common opponents (PACS and Stratford) these two teams have very similar scores and we should be set for a close matchup.
Fellowship Christian Paladins (11-0) at Trinity Christian Lions (10-2)
How They Got Here:
Fellowship defeated Mt. Paran 49-7, Athens Academy 49-14
Trinity defeated Tattnall Square 51-0, Whitefield Academy 54-13
Noteworthy: Fellowship Christian has put up points and put them up fast all year long. Most of their games and scoring outputs have been decided by half with them averaging close to 50 points per game. Trinity Christian has had a well balanced attack all year, and has really turned it on late scoring 50+ points in their first two playoff games. This is the deepest run the Lions have made in their short GHSA history, while the Paladins are looking to outdo their state semifinalist campaign from a year ago.
