Two Class A titans take the field Friday night in this matchup! Both teams are familiar with success, and big time games. Schley County is coming off of a disappointing outing last week in their loss to a tough Early County squad, but they look to defend their home turf as an undefeated Bleckley County team comes into town. Led by QB Eli Mullis, and playmakers Marcus Newson, Jahvon Butler, and Tj Mays, the Royals are a tough matchup for anyone. The Wildcats won’t back down from this test though, as Jalewis Solomon, Malachi Banks, and Jack Clark look to move past their loss and turn the corner in their season. Look for this one to be a nasty, physical, and fast paced game as both of these teams will attempt to control the line of scrimmage.

Pierce County: ATH DJ Bell, DB/WR Jaquez White, OL Henry Peagler, OL/DL Junior Elijah

Storylines:

This game will be fast and physical! Splitting the previous four matchups, with two wins a piece Liberty County and Pierce County are familiar foes with one another. The Panthers look to jump ahead in the series as they travel to Pierce. It won’t be an easy task though, as the Bears feature a heavy running game led by DJ Bell. Bell is one of the most dynamic players in the state, and he looks to continue his rush game dominance this Friday. He runs behind Henry Peagler, Junior Elijah and company as they have paved a path straight to the endzone for Bell. Elijah also has anchored the defensive side of the ball, as he dominates up front. Liberty County’s QB Carlos Keverene Singleton has been on a tear this season. He spreads the rock to his outside playmakers, Ron Golden, and James Summersett, as well as anyone in Georgia. This will be a showdown of two undefeated teams!

The Indians are averaging 36 points per game, while the Fighting Patriots are putting up 44 points per game! Both of these teams know what to do with the ball, and know how to break their opponents. East Coweta is led by their QB Christian Langford. Langford does a great job spreading the ball around, and getting the Indians in the right position. Sandy Creek QB Geimere Latimer knows what to do when the ball is in his hands, all he does is put points on the board for the Fighting Patriots. His playmakers, featuring Kaleb Cost, help him out in their pursuit of victory!

Game of the Week

After dropping their first game on the year, the Yellow Jackets have bounced back with two impressive, nail biting wins in consecutive weeks. Calhoun has shown that they can win the close ones, led by QB Trey Townsend, the Yellow Jackets stay calm under pressure. Emaree Winston has made a name for himself, he is one of the most dynamic players in this matchup, and looks to make his mark during the homecoming game! It will not be a breeze though, the Bulldogs from Cedartown are a tough opponent for anyone. Cedartown has dominated every team they have faced this season, and they expect to do much of the same this Friday against Calhoun. The 1-2 punch of Harlem Diamond, and Patrick Gardner has been unstoppable this season. Defensively, you will see Eli Barrow putting his fingerprints on this matchup, he is all over the field, and his motor seems to never stop. This will be a great game in Northwest GA!

Game of the Week

Class 5A

Players to Watch:

Benedictine: ATH Na’Seir Samuel, QB Luke Kromenhoek, LB Jonathan Hardy, RB Za’Quan Bryan

Ware County: WR Jarvis Hayes, QB Nikao Smith, RB Dae’jeaun Dennis, DB LJ Hall

Storylines:

The previous two meetings between these teams featured a high scoring affair, but expect this week to be a little different. In their first two games this season, Ware County has given up 10 combined points! The Gators defense is fast, physical, and explosive. With no plays off, and with DB LJ Hall anchoring that side of the ball, they are a tough matchup for anyone looking for a shootout. Though the Gators defense is the catalyst, don’t overlook the production that Nikao Smith and Jarvis Hayes has had early on in the 2022-23 season. Jarvis Hayes can win Ware County a ballgame by himself! Benedictine also poses a tough defense, pitching shutouts in two of three games this year. Jonathan Hardy is a ballhawk, and seems to find himself near the action on every snap. Offensively, the Cadets are led by Na’Seir Samuel. Samuel has breakaway speed, and if he has the ball in open space you can go ahead and put six points on the board!

Each team riding a 3-0 record into this week, and neither has been challenged to this point in the season. It has been a few years since these teams have met, but expect to see elite talent from both! Colquitt County has been dominant this season, and a large part of their success has been found in their explosiveness on offense. With a balanced attack, their playmakers can change the course of the game on one play. Landen Thomas, “Charlie” Pace, and Neko Fann look to continue their success against the Trojans this Friday. Meanwhile, Lee County features one of the most dominant defenses in the state. Led by Corey Mcdowell and Kason Hooks, the Trojans make it extremely difficult for any opposing offense to find success.
