Georgia Prep’s Players of the Week for the Quarterfinal Playoff Round
Trench Mob of the Week
Lee County O-Line - Lee County controlled its game from the start against previously unbeaten RIver Ridge. With a 49-17 lead early in the fourth quarter, this offensive line sent a message to the rest of 6A to expect a physical fight when you face the Trojans! The Trojans now take their incredible season and host Westlake who has a wealth of Division 1 talent. Westlake held on to defeat Allatoona 27-24 in the quarterfinals!
Class 7A
Travis Hunter Jr. (Collins Hill) - Hunter Jr. is back again and this time with a little bit of everything. He had double digit catches for over 100 yards, recovered a fumble, and took an interception back for a TD, leading the Eagles to a 21-14 win over Parkview! Hunter Jr. paired with QB Sam Horn have been close to unstoppable all season long. They now welcome Lowndes up from south Georgia as the Vikings just put an end to Milton’s perfect season last week with a 23-13 win!
Class 6A
Amari Jones (Valdosta) - The junior QB put the Wildcats back in the semi’s for the first time since 2016. He rushed for two scores, including the go ahead touchdown in the 36-15 come from behind win over Carrollton! Valdosta now travels to Buford who was 5A’s state champion a year ago.
Class 5A
Noah Saylor (Coffee) - It’s time to give the kickers some love! The Coffee Trojans don’t mind being a #3 seed and going on the road to get their wins. Saylor, a senior kicker was perfect on XP’s and nailed two kicks including one from 49 yards as the Trojans went up to north GA and got a 27-17 win over Calhoun! Coffee must continue its streak of road wins if they want to play for a championship as they head north for a matchup with Cartersville!
Class 4A
LeShon Brooks Jr. (Benedictine) - Brooks and the Cadet offense have hit their stride here lately. The senior RB did his part on Friday night, he carried the ball 17 times for close to 150 yards and two scores in the 48-13 win over Riverdale! Benedictine will need all the offense they can get as they host the high powered Jefferson offense led by a dynamic athlete in Malaki Starks!
Class 3A
Jermaine Brewton (Pierce County) - Brewton and the Bears offense scored over 50 points on Friday night. The senior QB only threw one incompletion, as he rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another in the 51-13 win over Carver! The Bears offense has been unstoppable, but they now face a Crisp County team who just took down defending state champion Cedar Grove by holding them to only 13 points!
Class 2A
Charlie Dixon (Callaway) - The senior running back doesn’t seem to want the Cavaliers’ season to end. Running for almost 250 yards and three scores in the 34-21 win over Thomasville was his latest effort to keep the Cavaliers advancing in these playoffs! Callaway now hosts Rabun County and all-state QB Gunner Stockton and his top WR Adriel Clark who survived an OT scare against Bleckley County in their 27-24 win!
Class 1A Public
Taj Hobbs (Metter) - The senior QB/DB is not afraid of physical play, he showed that on a big time scoring run in the first half as well as making numerous big hits in the run game as Metter beat Warren County 28-6! Metter stays undefeated on the year and will now host defending state champion Irwin County!
Class 1A Private
